France’s Kylian Mbappé eases injury concerns: ‘I’m all good’

France star Kylian Mbappé said he sustained a “knock” on his ankle during Thursday’s quarterfinal win over Morocco, but maintains that he is “all good.”

In the 77th minute of the match, he asked to be subbed off and appeared to be in some pain. He was later seen on the bench icing the ankle and receiving treatment.

“I’m all good. I got a knock on the ankle, but it’s all good,” he said after the match. “JP [Mateta] was more able than me to play the last 15 minutes.”

When the victory was secured, Mbappé still led the team and their fans in celebrations both on the pitch and in the locker room. Sources also told ESPN that France isn’t highly concerned about the ankle injury.

“There are no concerns to have on Kylian’s ankle,” one source said.

Mbappé has been one of the top players in this World Cup, scoring eight goals and assisting three more. His involvement in 11 goals is the most by a player in a World Cup since Gerd Müller in 1970.

Now, he’s got his eyes set on France’s next obstacle, a semifinal matchup against the winner of Tuesday’s battle between Spain and Belgium.

“We are aware that there is only one way to relax, it’s to win. But we still have a long way. We know that what is coming next will be even harder but we are ready for face anything,” he said. “We will recover nicely and watch the game tomorrow to see who we will face.”
