The Jonathan Kuminga and Golden State Warriors drama is continuing to drag on as the summer is coming to an end.

Kuminga had a promising rookie season, averaging 9.3 points in 16.9 minutes per game, while helping the Warriors win the NBA championship. There was a lot of talk of Kuminga being the franchise’s future, but his play quickly fell off, leading to inconsistencies in his playing time.

Kuminga is currently a restricted free agent and will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026. Kuminga is looking for a big payday, but Golden State isn’t so sure of it.
According to Danny Emerman of The San Francisco Standard, Kuminga and the Warriors have not been on speaking terms.
“The Warriors and Kuminga’s camp haven’t had contact for a couple of weeks,” Emerman said. “As he remains at a standstill. There’s a distinct possibility that negotiations, or lack thereof, could continue through August.
“Golden State offered Kuminga a two-year, $45 million contract that is essentially a one-year deal. The proposal reportedly is not guaranteed for the second year and would require Kuminga to relinquish his no-trade clause in the first.”
It appears that Kuminga and the Warriors are headed for a divorce. In all honesty, that would probably be best for both parties.
