Virginia Tech held their annual Spring Game on Saturday and its opening did not go as planned. The pre-game parachutist flying the American flag was left suspended in mid-air after slamming into the Lane Stadium scoreboard.
Strong winds appeared to push the skydiver off course before the parachute got caught on the scoreboard, slamming the skydiver in the process.
The skydiver was suspended in the air for nearly 45 minutes, according to witnesses. Two rescue trucks had to be utilized as the first truck did not have a ladder long enough to complete the rescue.
Luckily, the skydiver was safely secured and is in stable condition, according to a school announcement.
The Hokies are looking for a turnaround this season after a 3-9 overall finish last year. James Franklin is the new head coach after his time at Penn State, so the pressure is on to see at least some sort of serious improvement.
