If you were watching from afar, you’d understand that the Thunder had a great season. But when you dig deeper into the numbers, you’ll see that the Thunder had a historic season.

The Thunder won a total of 84 games this season. This places them tied in third place with the 1996-97 Chicago Bulls for the most wins in a regular season plus playoffs.

The only two teams to have more total wins were the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors, who won 88 games, and the 1995-96 Bulls, who won 87 games.

The Thunder have also outscored their opponents by a wider margin than any team in NBA history throughout an entire season plus playoffs. In their 105 total games, OKC outscored their opponents by 1,243 points.

The Thunder finished with the fourth-best point differential per game of all time with 11.8. The only teams to have a higher differential per game are the 1995-96 Bulls (11.9), 2016-2017 Warriors (12.0), and the 1970-1971 Milwaukee Bucks (12.6).

The Thunder were also the second youngest team to win an NBA title, only being older than the 1976-77 Portland Trail Blazers. If this means anything, it is that the Oklahoma City Thunder will be title contenders for the foreseeable future.

But for now, let’s all enjoy this year’s incredible championship run.
