The NBA All-Star Game has suffered in the last three years with a viewership decline. One of the main reasons is that the players aren’t competing as they had in years past.

Many fans remember the old days when players like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant played their hearts out in the All-Star Game. They took the game seriously and made it an enjoyable experience for all fans.

It hasn’t been the way recently but NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has an idea. The NBA has grown significantly on the global level in the past decade, and many of the top stars in the league are foreign players.

Silver has come up with a potential idea of having the All-Star Game turned into a global showdown. NBA vs. World is the idea.

“Our All-Star Game will return to NBC next season in the middle of their coverage of the Winter Olympics,” Silver said.

“Given the strong interest we’ve seen in international basketball competitions, most recently in last summer’s Olympics in Paris, we’re discussing concepts with the players association that focus on NBA players representing their countries or regions instead of the more traditional formats that we’ve used in the past.”

The idea of an NBA vs. World showdown could bring the casual fan back to the All-Star Game. It certainly can’t hurt, as every other idea has failed miserably.
