Matthew Stafford is having quite the season. He currently leads the MVP race and has led the Rams to the NFC Championship against their bitter rivals, the Seahawks. However, can Stafford beat the Seahawks’ defense to get back to the Super Bowl?
Stafford has shown dominance against a Mike Macdonald led defense, throwing for 10 touchdowns compared to one pick. Stafford also has an impeccable record in the Playoffs as a Ram, posting a 7-2 record with 18 touchdowns and four picks. He also has a 4-1 record in the Divisional round or later.
Against the NFC West this season, Stafford’s stats only get better. He has thrown for 1,796 yards with 19 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Stafford is 1-1 against the Seahawks this season, throwing for a combined total of 587 yards and six touchdowns.
However, it may only a matter of time before Stafford’s dominance comes to an end. The Seahawks are the best defense in points per game, allowing only 17.2, as well as the sixth best total defense in the league. They are also great at forcing turnovers, finishing with 25 on the season. Yet, the Seahawks have only allowed more than 25 points in three games this season, with two of those instances being against the Rams.
Last week in the Divisional round, the Seahawks defense was all over the 49ers. They forced three turnovers and completely shut down Christian McCaffrey, limiting him to 74 total yards in the teams 41-6 win.
Regardless, both teams will have to play to perfection if they want to advance to the Super Bowl. For the Rams, it will be their first appearance since 2022 when they beat the Bengals 23-20. For the Seahawks, it will be their first since 2014. Last time, Malcolm Butler ended their dreams of back-to-back with a goal-line pick.
