Lamar Cardinals quarterback Aiden McCown threw for 307 yards and three touchdowns, and running back Parker Jenkins rushed for 138 yards and three scores, as Lamar beat No. 2 Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks 45–28 on Saturday.
The Cardinals opened the scoring with a 27-yard field goal by kicker Andres Sandoval. McCown then connected with wide receiver Davin Driskell on a 7-yard touchdown pass with 2:03 left in the first quarter. Jenkins added a 3-yard rushing touchdown midway through the second quarter to extend Lamar’s lead to 17–0.

Stephen F. Austin scored its first points on a 22-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Gavin Rutherford to wide receiver Clayton Wayland with 25 seconds remaining before halftime. Rutherford finished with 315 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Wayland recorded 173 receiving yards and two scores; wide receiver Bugs Mortimer had 124 receiving yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Blake Thomas caught a touchdown and gained 120 yards receiving for Lamar.
Lamar entered the game ranked No. 13 in the Stats Perform FCS Poll and now leads the Southland Conference standings. Stephen F. Austin entered ranked No. 2 in the same poll.
Lamar hosts East Texas A&M next Saturday. Stephen F. Austin plays at UT Rio Grande Valley next Saturday.
