A future Hall of Famer and a top-10 all-time scorer in NBA history has a preference on who his next team should be.

Kevin Durant wants out of Phoenix and for good reasons.

Four NBA teams have a shot at getting Kevin Durant this summer

The Suns are not the franchise to help the 36-year-old navigate to a third league championship and third NBA Finals Most Valuable Player honor. He had a great season in the 2024-25 campaign — averaging 26.6 points per game — but the Suns failed to make the Western Conference playoffs. Durant believes he can still get it done at the highest level and ESPN’s Brian Windhorst says a trade for Durant out of Phoenix will be done in a matter of weeks. Many suitors are in position for him; however, which one gives him the best chance to contend for a title? Durant has a preference of where he wants to go.

Sam Amico, a senior NBA writer for HoopsWire, reports Durant wants to go to the San Antonio Spurs.

Greg Popovich put the franchise in a great position before he retired. San Antonio has superstar young talent with Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, and Stephon Castle. The Spurs also have the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.

San Antonio would make a lot of sense for Durant. He would remain in the Western Conference, extend his playing career around growing young stars, and be with an organization that has pieces to win a championship.

He has one year remaining on his contract with Phoenix worth $54.7 million.

Spurs could explore getting Kevin Durant this summer

Durant would turn 37 in September and the four-time scoring champion would love a third NBA title ring.

San Antonio may be the best option for him.
