Wembanyama takes pay cut in new five-year extension with Spurs

Victor Wembanyama has signed a five-year extension with the San Antonio Spurs worth $252 million. According to reports, Wemby did not want to incorporate any supermax escalator that would have brought the contract to $303 million.

After making the NBA Finals last year, the Spurs wanted to do whatever they could to hold onto their star player. The supermax contract was offered to Wemby, but he declined. In fact, Wemby even considered signing for less than the max rookie contract that he ended up signing.

Overall, Wemby just wants to win with the Spurs. The organization can now use the extra space and money to maintain their championship-contending roster. Based on these developments, we could see the Spurs returning to the Finals very very soon.
