Anthony Edwards has quickly become one of the best young players in the NBA. Over the last few years he has overtaken Karl-Anthony Towns‘ spot as the Minnesota Timberwolves’ first option. At only 23, Edwards seems well on his way to winning an MVP award. ESPN analyst and former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins believes it will happen sooner than we think.
“The young man that knocked off the defending champs out of the postseason,” Perkins said when asked to predict the MVP of the upcoming season.

“His name is Anthony Edwards…Look, I think right now, from watching what I saw last year, especially in the Olympics, Edwards is out to get his. He wants to win, but this year, I wouldn’t be surprised if leads the league in scoring. He’s not waiting on anyone. I know he wants to win a championship, he has said that time and time again, but [he] also wants to stack up those individual accolades.”

Edwards finished last season seventh in the MVP race and earned All-NBA Second Team honors. Edwards will undoubtedly face strong competition for the award in players like Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic, but if he continues to shred NBA defenses and contend for a title, the trophy will be his in no time.
