Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver and NFL head coach Raymond Berry has died peacefully at the age of 93, his family confirmed on Monday.

“Simply put, not only was Raymond Berry one [of] the greatest players in the history of the Colts, but he was one of the most influential and foundational players of the modern NFL,” Indianapolis Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon said in a statement.

Berry was drafted in 1954 and played all 13 of his NFL seasons with the Colts when they were based in Baltimore.

He led the league in touchdown receptions on two occasions on his way to becoming a six-time Pro Bowler, three-time First Team All-Pro and three-time Second Team All-Pro.

Berry helped guide the Colts to NFL championship victories in 1958 and 1959, including a 12-reception performance against the New York Giants in the 1958 title game.

After his legendary playing career, he spent time as an assistant coach before being named the head coach of the New England Patriots in 1984.

There, Berry finished with a record of 48-39 across six seasons. In 1985, he led the Patriots to their first Super Bowl appearance, falling to the stacked Chicago Bears.

His No. 82 jersey was ultimately retired by the Colts and he was eventually named to the Baltimore Ravens’ Ring of Honor.
