The Golden State Valkyries won the 2026 WNBA championship on Saturday, defeating their opponent in Game 7 of the Finals — the first time the league’s new best-of-seven format reached its full length.
The Valkyries averaged 67.4 points per game in the Finals, the lowest scoring average for a WNBA champion since the Sacramento Monarchs’ 66.8 points per game in 2005. They are one of five WNBA champions to score fewer points in the Finals than the team they beat.

Guard Gabby Williams, in her first season with Golden State, earned WNBA Finals MVP honors after scoring 30 points in Game 7. She averaged 21.0 points across 13 postseason games, including five outings with at least 25 points. In the seven Finals games, she averaged 19.6 points.
The Valkyries won three games at Chase Center and one at State Farm Arena. The WNBA adopted the best-of-seven Finals format in 2025.
The championship capped the league’s 30th season. Golden State built its identity around defense and process.
