Germany uses late goal to squeak out 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast

Germany used two unanswered goals to propel themselves over Ivory Coast, with the victory securing their top spot in Group E.

Germany would seemingly break open the scoring in the 22nd minute.

But the goal would later be disallowed due to contact with Ivorian goalkeeper Yahia Fofana.

And Ivory Coast quickly reminded everyone that they might be the true dark horse team of the tournament.

A goal in the 30th minute from Franck Kessié saw the four-time World Cup champions fall behind 1-0.

In the 39th minute it had seemed that Germany managed to find their equalizer, but their goal would be disallowed yet again.

But in the second half the Germans really turned it up, scoring the equalizer in the 68th minute thanks to Deniz Undav.

And it would be Undav again with the late game heroics.

In the 90+4th minute he would fire a beauty, burying into the back of the net and giving Germany the lead at the death.

Germany would take the contest 2-1 and officially station themselves in the knockout stage.

Germany and Ivory Coast will both play their final group stage match at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Germany will look for the group sweep against Ecuador.

And the Ivory Coast will search for an important three points and that second place spot in the group during their match up with Curaçao.
