Stephen A. Smith apologizes to Knicks on stage: ‘I was beyond wrong’

The New York Knicks exceeded all expectations this season to secure an NBA championship and a few of their players kept receipts.

Knicks guards Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart recently hosted a live episode of “The Roommates Show” with ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith. It didn’t take long for Hart to remind him of the things he said about the Knicks and ask for an apology.

“We are now sitting here with this golden trophy there to your right. Can you sit here and admit you were wrong?” Hart asked Smith.

As boos quickly arose from the audience, Smith took a moment to admit he was wrong and apologize to Brunson, Hart and the Knicks.

“I’m a grown-ass man. I was beyond wrong. I’m apologizing to this brother on national television; I’m apologizing to you; I’m apologizing to the entire Knicks organization.”

“Let me be very, very clear — I have never been more happy to be wrong in my life. Let me be very, very clear — I came out of the womb a Knicks fan. I’m 58-years-old. The last time the New York Knicks won a title before last Saturday, I was 4.”

Smith’s apology came after Hart brought up his comments from back in 2016. Smith said he didn’t believe that Villanova, who had Hart, Brunson Mikal Bridges and Donte DiVincenzo at the time, had no legitimate NBA prospects on the roster.

On top of that, Smith was also called out for saying Brunson “isn’t the answer” when he signed with the Knicks in 2022.

It’s no secret that Smith is a Knicks fan, but he’s consistently called them out for years, even through heavy criticism. So somehow getting a genuine apology out of someone so confident in his words is a bit impressive.
