Georgia Bulldogs men’s basketball freshman Kareem Stagg was arrested in Oconee County on Wednesday on charges of speeding and driving without a valid license, according to the online booking report.

He was arrested around 3 p.m. EST and was released roughly 50 minutes later after posting his $1,245 bond. He was reportedly clocked going 87 miles an hour in a 65 miles per hour zone.

After being pulled over, Stagg told the officer he did not have a driver’s license on him. It was later discovered that he had a learner’s permit, but it required a legal driver above the age of 21 to be with him. He was driving alone.

“We are aware of the charges and are actively gathering additional information,” Georgia athletics said in a statement to the Athens Banner-Herald. “As this an ongoing legal matter, we will not be providing further comment at this time.”

The 18-year-old averaged 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds for the Bulldogs this season while appearing in all 33 games.
