The knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup began on Sunday and the first matchup came down to the wire.

After both Canada and South Africa played terrific defense for 90 minutes of regulation time, Stephen Eustáquio chested the ball to set up a clean shot in the second minute of stoppage time.

With just a few minutes to spare, Canada was ahead 1-0.

The Canadians were able to play strong defense for the final three minutes of stoppage time to secure the victory and advance to the round of 16 for the first time ever.

Naturally, fans online were starstruck by Eustáquio’s goal and Canada’s subsequent win.
