England uses extra time goal to advance to semi-finals over Norway

England and Norway needed 120 minute to determine a winner on Saturday, with the English taking the win and advancing to the semi-finals.

Before start of the match, a moment of silence was held for South African midfielder Jayden Adams who was announced dead earlier on Saturday, he was 25.

The early going saw both sides jockeying to create opportunities, but through the first 12 minutes, neither side had found an attempt at net.

In the 23rd minute, England would create a great chance to score following a cross to the back post.

But Nico O’Reilly just could not capitalize on the open net, allowing a Norwegian clearance and ending the opportunity.

In the 29th, a Norwegian foul set up a dangerous free kick from just outside the box

Harry Kane would look to take the kick but skied it over the bar and out of play.

Norway would find their first strike of the match in the 35th, with Erling Haaland firing an open header right at Jordan Pickford.

But just moments later, an English turnover would see Norway with another attacking opportunity.

Norway’s Andreas Schjelderup would fire a strike wide of net, possibly looking for Haaland on the back post.

But Schjelderup’s strike ricochetted off the back post and right into the back of net.

And Norway’s press late in the first half would continue, a break in the 44th minute looked to double their advantage.

But great English defense would deny Norway a second.

England would be put on the back foot for what felt like a short eternity.

But Jude Bellingham, who had been kept relatively quiet, finally left his mark on this match early into first-half stoppage-time.

And it seemed that England, just like they had done against the Democratic Republic of Congo, managed to find two goals in rapid succession.

Kane, who managed to sneak away from the Norwegian defense, would chip his strike over goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland to put England ahead.

But the offsides flag would deny the English striker of a go-ahead goal.

With Kane’s goal being taken off the board, both sides would head into the half level at one.

In the 55th minute, it seemed Norway took the lead following a corner.

But a foul on Haaland would see the goal pulled back following a VAR review.

Norway came inches away from taking the lead again in the 76th following a chaotic sequence of events inside the box.

In the 87th a dangerous cross into the box by Bukayo Saka came dangerously close to putting England ahead, but a Norwegian clearance would keep the match level.

And the late match drama would continue in the 90+1st minute.

Djed Spence nearly took advantage of a terrible mistake by Nyland, but the goalkeeper managed to get the ball off just in time to have it deflect out for a goal kick.

Neither side could find a go-ahead goal in regulation, bringing the match to extra time.

Early into the extra time, in the 93rd minute, Bellingham would secure himself a brace to put England ahead.

And it seemed England would get a golden opportunity to put the match away with a penalty kick in the 99th.

But following a VAR review, it was determined that the foul would be rescinded.

In the 110th, England once again looked to put the game on ice with two chances onto net.

But Nyland made sure to keep Norway in the match with a pair of saves.

However, Bellingham’s goal for England would be enough to propel them into the semi-finals.

They’re set to take on the winner of Argentina vs. Switzerland, with their semi-final match at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
