Former NBA champion Derek Fisher recently took to the “Fastbreak Podcast” with Byron Scott to draw a comparison between Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic and Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal.
“The way [Jokic] dominates the game is obviously extremely different than Shaq,” Fisher said. “but the concept is the same, you have no matchup for Nikola Jokic.”

Jokic and O’Neal have been compared before, but Fisher focused on the similarity between them instead of all the differences that are usually discussed. Of course we aren’t gonna see Jokic throwing down poster dunks on a nightly basis, but he is nearly impossible to stop regardless of his subpar athleticism.

Fisher also touched on the differences in play style between NBA eras.
“There’s more space on the floor. Guys are positionless…” Fisher said. “There’s a lot of fun and value into the way the game is being played now.”
It’s refreshing to hear from a player that played alongside a superstar from that era to draw real comparisons between two all-time greats and see the evolution of the game in a positive light.
