Connor McDavid scores his 100th point as Oilers blowout Kings

The Oilers dominated the Kings on Thursday, winning 8-1. It was the second time this season the Oilers scored at least eight goals in a game, and the most they have scored in Los Angeles since 1996.

The Oilers had seven different goal scorers against the Kings. Ty Emberson got the Oilers on the board in the first period, followed by Vasily Podkolzin to make it 2-0. Warren Foegele would get one back for the Kings four minutes later, but that would be the only offense from the Kings. The Oilers would score three goals in both the second and third period.

Oilers’ Connor McDavid finished with one goal and one assist, making it his sixth straight 100-point season. He also joins Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky as the only players to have at least 9-plus 100-point seasons in NHL history. Leon Draisaitl finished with one goal and four assists, making it eight straight seasons of 30-plus goals.

It has been a rough return for the Kings. The defense has struggled heavily, allowing 14 goals in two games. The team traded for forward Artemi Panarin before the Olympics and sits three points out of the final playoff spot. It is also the team’s fifth straight loss.

The Oilers’ win snaps the team’s four-game losing streak. The Oilers’ next game will be Friday, Feb. 28, against the San Jose Sharks.
