Coby White Returns for Hornets vs. Pistons

Charlotte Hornets guard Coby White made his season debut Monday against the Detroit Pistons after missing the start of the season with a calf injury.

White, 26, is in his eighth NBA season and was named Charlotte’s starting point guard following the offseason trade of LaMelo Ball. Dennis Schroder started at point guard in White’s absence.

Head coach Charles Lee said White will have a minutes limit for the next several games. White has not played since sustaining the injury during offseason workouts.

Second-year guard Kon Knueppel remains sidelined with a hamstring injury but continues to advance in his recovery. Lee said Knueppel is “right around the corner” from returning. Knueppel has taken part in full-team drills and recently began contact work. He is expected to resume the starting shooting guard role from Sion James when cleared.

After Monday’s home game against Detroit, the Hornets travel to Brooklyn on Wednesday and host Boston on Thursday.
