CFL declining Brendan Sorsby to sign with any of its franchises

The CFL announced that it will not allow former Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby to sign with any of its franchises on Friday.

“Upholding the integrity of the league and ensuring fair competition are paramount to the CFL,” the league said in a statement. “The allegations involving Brendan Sorsby are serious and concerning.

“At this time the CFL will not register a contract for him, and no tea will be permitted to add him to its negotiation list.”

Sorsby had been declined to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft after parting ways with Texas Tech. He did not show any indication that he would look to join the CFL prior to the release of its statement.

Sorsby was under NCAA investigation for allegedly gambling on his own team’s games while serving as a backup at Indiana as well as Cincinnati. He transferred to Texas Tech earlier this year and had been granted an extra year of eligibility but ultimately left the program following significant backlash.
