Canada Secures win against Uzbekistan in shutout fashion

Canada secured a solid 2-0 victory against Uzbekistan on a rainy Monday night in Edmonton, Canada.

The first half saw both teams come up empty as going into the half, the game was locked in a 0-0 stalemate.

However, the Canadians would find some offense in the 58th minute after a Jonathan Osorio shot was deflected by Uzbekistan goalkeeper Abduvohid Nematov right into the back of the net.

Canada would not stop there however, with Jayden Nelson sneaking in a first touch ball into the side netting of the goal in the 91st minute to seal the win for Canada.

Canada will play their final international friendly against Ireland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, looking to secure a win in their final match before the tournament.

This year’s World Cup marks the first time in history that the country has qualified for back-to-back tournaments. And while their qualification was automatic due to their host status, it nevertheless gives Canadians some hope for the future of soccer in the country.

They also look to make more history, hoping to make it to the round of 16 for the first time ever. And taking a look at their group, it seems that may be a real possibility. Sharing a group with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Switzerland and Qatar.

Only time will tell if the Canadians prevail, but with a surprise semi-final appearance in the countries first ever Copa America in 2024, habitants of “The Great White North” have a lot to be excited for.
