Caitlin Clark, WNBA players, make statement at All-Star Game

The WNBA All-Star Game was a fun experience for fans, despite Caitlin Clark sitting out due to a groin injury. Team Collier ended up defeating Team Clark 151-131, with Napheesa Collier setting the All-Star Game scoring record with 36 points, winning the MVP.

The WNBA and its players are currently going through an intense collective bargaining agreement discussion. The players opted out of the current CBA last October and the current CBA is set to expire on October 31.

The league’s initial offer to the players had been described as “failing to address the priorities of the players.”

WNBA players use All-Star Game to send message

Before the All-Star Game tipped off, the players wore T-shirts during shoot-around that read: Pay Us What You Owe Us.

The league has been growing in popularity lately, and the players believe they deserve to be compensated accordingly.

“We see the growth of the league,” Collier said. “And as it stands, the current salary system is not really paying us what we’re owed. And we want to be able to have that fair share moving forward.”

Clark may not have played in the All-Star Game, but she still voiced her opinion on the ongoing contract negotiations.

“That’s where we’re really fortunate is that we have those other deals,” Clark said. “And I think that’s one of the things that we’re fighting for is we should be paid more, and hopefully that’s the case moving forward as the league continues to grow.

“I think that’s something, that’s probably the most important thing that we’re in the room advocating about.”

The Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) hopes it can secure a new and fair deal for its players. If not, the WNBA may fall victim to a strike.
