On Thursday night, Indiana Fever fans held their breath as Caitlin Clark left the team’s preseason home opener against the Dallas Wings with an injury scare. But after the Fever’s 95-80 loss, Clark said she feels good.
“I feel good. I just landed on my kneecap really hard,” Clark said after scoring a team-high 21 points. “I know there’s a committee of people that really wanted them [the refs] to start calling things, and I thought they did a great job of that. Honestly, I thought the refs were great, and it’s preseason, so you’re probably going to see more fouls called. I expect that number to drop. But I think overall, it’s going to improve the product.”
In the opening game of the preseason, Clark looked rusty after a nine-month absence. That rust seems to be gone as she was in a rhythm against the Wings on Thursday.
She battled with fellow Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers in the first half. Bueckers caught fire in the second quarter to score all 20 of her points by halftime.
Clark’s return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse ended with a scare, but she seems to be all good as the regular season approaches.
