Until yesterday, Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry didn’t have much interest in dealing Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams.
But what pushed the ball over the finish line was the inclusion of one essential piece which was Rams edge rusher Jared Verse.

“I didn’t have it on my bingo card, and I realize how strong I’ve been with Myles,” Berry said according to ESPN. “But the reality is when you have an opportunity to do something that has strong both short-term and long-term benefits, we have to be flexible with it.”
Berry had rejected multiple offers for Garrett until he was ultimately dealt on Monday in exchange for Verse, a 2027 first-round draft pick, a 2028 second round pick and a 2029 third round pick.
Garrett was the named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year last season and now joins a Rams roster loaded with talent looking to make another push to the Super Bowl.
On the other hand, the Browns are now rebuilding their team once again around Verse and other young players led by new head coach Todd Monken. Verse himself was named the 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year, so it isn’t a bad place to start over on the edges.
“He’s a perfect DNA match for our attacking front,” Berry said. “He’s really a terror in both phases, both as a run defender and a pass rusher. We are really, really excited to add him to our team. He allows us to continue to play defense at a high level, which has been our standard over the past couple of seasons, and we are really excited to welcome him into the organization.”
