Former NFL quarterback Browning Nagle has died at the age of 57 after a battle with colon cancer, his alma mater confirmed on social media.
“We are saddened by the passing of Browning Nagle, former Fiesta Bowl MVP quarterback and Louisville great,” Louisville football wrote. “His leadership on the field and passion for the game left a lasting mark on our program. Our thoughts are with his loved ones and teammates during this difficult time.”
In college, Browning led Louisville to a legendary Fiesta Bowl victory over Alabama in 1991. After winning MVP honors for that performance, he was drafted by the New York Jets.
He played in New York for three seasons before joining the Indianapolis Colts in 1994. He appeared in just one game for the Colts before playing for the Atlanta Falcons in 1996.
Nagle returned to Louisville to start a family and a career in medical sales after retiring from football.
