Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby applying for NFL supplemental draft

After a highly-scrutinized legal battle over his NCAA eligibility, Texas Tech transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby has decided to apply the NFL supplemental draft after all, according to EPSN insider Pete Thamel.

Sorsby was recently granted a temporary injunction that would have allowed him to play for Texas Tech in 2026, despite being ruled ineligible by the NCAA after his long history of illegal sports gambling came to light.

He placed thousands of bets during his college career, totaling nearly $90,000. Some of these bets were placed on his own team while he was on the Indiana Hoosiers.

He had recently completed a rehab stint for gambling addiction and his legal team emphasized in court that Sorsby was dealing with a mental illness.

The recent ruling that made him eligible immediately caused outrage among college sports that leaked over into the overall sports world.

In response to the ruling, the Big 12 filed a lawsuit against Texas Tech seeking its own injunction allowing it to sanction the school if Sorsby took the field this season.

Within hours of this filing, Sorsby decided to apply for the NFL supplemental draft.

With Sorsby’s legal team reportedly withdrawing their lawsuit, the 22-year-old is now ineligible for the NCAA and on his way to the NFL.
