In a stunning revelation, it has been revealed that legendary former head coach Bill Belichick is not a first-ballot Hall of Famer, per Adam Schefter.
According to ESPN, Belichick fell short of the 40 out of 50 votes needed in order to be inducted. Belichick was reportedly notified of the results over the phone by a Hall of Fame representative.
Multiple sources near the longtime head coach say that he’s disappointed and confused that he failed to receive enough votes.
Belichick won eight total Super Bowls in his career, two as the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants before his historic run as head coach of the Patriots that saw him take home six more.
He was considered a first-ballot lock by many, with Tuesday’s news immediately sending shockwaves throughout the NFL world. Some are calling for a complete overhaul of the eligibility rules, an idea that just gained a little more validity.
