Jovan Jester Jr. had 24 points and eight rebounds, and the UC Irvine Anteaters beat the San José State Spartans 91-79 on Saturday night at Bren Events Center.
The Anteaters came out fast, taking the first half 51-31. They never trailed and led by as many as 23. The Anteaters led 51-31 at halftime and 76-62 with six minutes left, but the Spartans made a late push and won the second half 48-40 before the Anteaters closed it out. A 13-0 run in the first half put them in front early.

For UC Irvine, Jovan Jester Jr. finished with 24 points, eight rebounds and three assists, Nils Cooper had 15 points and four rebounds, while Tama Isaac chipped in 14 points, five rebounds and eight assists.
For San José State, Joey Chammaa had 16 points and five rebounds, and Mookie Cook added 16 points.
The Anteaters moved to 2-0. The Spartans dropped to 1-1.
The Anteaters are first in the Big West and have won two straight. The Spartans sit first in the Mountain West. San José State is 1-0 at home and 0-1 away from home.
The Anteaters next host the Lincoln (CA) Oaklanders on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10:00 p.m. ET. The Spartans next host the UC Riverside Highlanders on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 10:00 p.m. ET.
