Ronald Acuña Jr. lands on injured list with Grade 1 hamstring strain

Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. has been placed on the injured list with a Grade 1 hamstring strain and the team did not reveal a timeline for his return.

Acuña suffered the injury during Tuesday’s matchup against the Chicago White Sox, after he hit a ground ball in the fourth inning.

As he made it to first base just after the throw did, he came up in pain just before reaching the bag.

Acuña already spent time on the IL with a hamstring strain from May 3-18. While the team seemed optimistic that Tuesday’s injury wasn’t severe enough for another IL trip, Wednesday’s MRI indicated otherwise.

The star outfielder has battled a number of serious lower body injuries over the last five seasons, including torn ACLs in both knees.

He only played in 19 games since returning from his previous injury, but he’s performed well at the plate and the Braves come into Wednesday with the best record in baseball.

Still, another trip to the IL this soon isn’t easy for anyone.

“It’s frustrating,” team manager Walt Weiss said. “It’s frustrating for any athlete that gets injured. It’s all part of it. Unfortunately Ronald has had to deal with it more than his fair share.”
