Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Framber Valdez has been suspended for six games for hitting Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch was also suspended one game. Both were also fined an undisclosed amount.
Valdez was thrown out of the Tigers’ 10-3 loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday night after hitting Story in the shoulder. He was then immediately ejected, leading to a bench clearing brawl. Valdez’ pitch came after giving up back-to-back home runs to Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu. Valdez claimed after the game that the pitch was not intentional.
So far this season, Valdez has a 2-2 record in eight starts with a 4.57 ERA. The 32-year old signed a three-year $115 million deal with the Tigers this offseason.
