Former NBA All-Star Michael Ray Richardson passed away yesterday at age 70 due to prostate cancer. He was named to four All-Star teams, and led the league in assists during the 1979-80 season.

After a successful collegiate career at Montana, the New York Knicks drafted Richardson fourth overall in the 1978 NBA Draft. He averaged 14.8 points, 7.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game during his eight year career, where he played for three teams.

Richardson was a very good player but his career was cut short due to making the wrong type of history. He became the first NBA player to be banned for life for drug violations.

Rest in peace, Michael Ray Richardson.
