Luka Doncic shines in Lakers’ blowout win over top-seeded OKC

The Los Angeles Lakers are in Oklahoma City for two games against the OKC Thunder this week. The first matchup took place on Sunday afternoon and quickly became a dominant outing from the Lakers. Despite being an average three-point shooting team at best, L.A. knocked down a blistering 55% of their 40 long-range attempts on Sunday.

Luka Doncic started strong with a 14-point first quarter as both offenses had a strong opening frame, with the Lakers holding a 42-32 lead at the end of the first.

The second quarter saw L.A. start with a 7-0 scoring run as they extended their lead to 20 points. OKC responded with a 7-0 run of their own, but the Lakers’ offense was too much and their lead ballooned to as high as 29.

After forcing a timeout to begin the fourth quarter, OKC couldn’t bring the game back within reach and a LeBron fastbreak dunk followed by a Rui Hachimura three essentially sealed the game.

Doncic finished with 30 points, seven rebounds and six assists while LeBron James had 19 points and seven assists on 9-16 shooting.

For OKC, Shai Gilgeous Alexander did everything he could and finished with 26 points and nine assists.

Overall, the Lakers shot 54.8% from the field and tied the franchise record for the most made threes in a single half. The OKC Thunder have a few days to make some adjustments before playing the Lakers again on Tuesday.
