Philadelphia 76ers part ways with Daryl Morey after six seasons

The Philadelphia 76ers are parting ways with president of basketball operations Daryl Morey after six seasons, per NBA insider Shams Charania.

According to Charania, head coach Nick Nurse will remain in his role and former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers will take over the basketball decisions as they search for Morey’s replacement.

Myers is currently the president of sports for the Sixers’ parent company and will now lead this search for a new lead basketball executive.

Morey joined the Sixers under tremendous expectations after a largely successful tenure with the Houston Rockets. Over six seasons in Philadelphia, the Sixers had a 270-212 record and made the playoffs five times.

But they failed to reach the Eastern Conference Finals under Morey. His biggest move in Philadelphia was bringing in James Harden for the 2022-23 season, but their regular season success that year didn’t materialize into a championship.

Ultimately, Tuesday’s move was one that became expected recently, with reports emergin over the last several days that suggested Morey would be out.

His tenure in Philadelphia was full of ups and downs, marred by injury woes that plagued nearly every star that suited up for the Sixers.

Now, he’ll likely be near the top of the market in terms of executives this offseason. His analytics-focused approach should catch the eyes of several teams this summer.
