The 2025 NBA MVP race is coming down to the wire and it’s a tight contest between Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Both players are having incredible seasons, and with the latest Kia MVP rankings released, one player currently has the edge.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the current favorite to win the award and it shouldn’t surprise anyone. He’s leading the league in scoring at 32.6 points per game, and his team has the best record in the league at 64-13.

Jokic, on the other hand, is having a historic season. He’s on pace to become the first center to average a triple-double for an entire season (29.8, 12.8, 10.2).

So, who is the real MVP? According to NBA legend and former 2004 MVP, Kevin Garnett, the NBA should revise MVP rules for Jokic and Gilgeous-Alexander.

“This is on another level,” said Garnett. “How does he not get it, though? That’s the crazy part about this. They’re gonna have to go back to the rules. They gonna go back and assess it. He’s busting the rules.”

Garnett later went on to add, “I don’t think so (about co-MVP winners), but if there was ever a time for one… I hate that cuz Shai not getting his due.”

Will the NBA agree with Garnett and give out co-MVPs for the first time in league history? This is highly unlikely, which will make the MVP race an exciting and nail biting experience, leading up to the announcement.
