A’ja Wilson named unanimous 2024 WNBA MVP

Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson has just been named the 2024 WNBA MVP. She joins Cynthia Cooper as the only other player to win the award unanimously.

Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier was the runner up, followed by New York’s Breanna Stewart at third and Indiana’s Caitlin Clark in fourth place.

Wilson won the MVP award in 2020 and 2022, finishing third place last year behind Stewart and Connecticut’s Alyssa Thomas.

This season was a different story. Wilson dominated the league from start to finish and ran away with the MVP trophy long before the race was over. Her 451 rebounds set a new league record and she became the first player to reach 1,000 points in a season, finishing with 1,021.

She finished the season with averages of 26.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 1.8 steals per game.

Aces Head coach Becky Hammon spoke about Wilson’s season.

“We always talk about, ‘Make your teammate great, and then in the process you become the greatest,'” Hammon said. “A’ja is a great example of that — just making everybody great around her. She’s the greatest, because she’s so authentically committed to that: pulling greatness out of other people.”

Wilson led Las Vegas to the 2022 and 2023 titles, winning the finals MVP award last year. With the league’s highest honor back in her hands, she’ll now look to lead the Las Vegas Aces to a three-peat.
