The New York Yankees needed some time to get going during Sunday’s matchup against the Athletics. But three innings in, they rattled off 13 straight runs in dominant fashion.

After the Athletics got on the board first with three runs in the opening inning, Anthony Volpe hit a single before the next two batters were walked.

With the bases loaded, Paul Goldschmidt hit a one-run RBI single to put New York on the board. That’s when Ben Rice hit a two-run RBI double down the right side line.

With a tie game, Aaron Judge kept it going with a one-run RBI single to center field. The Yankees continued to find success at the plate when Cody Bellinger loaded the bases with a single of his own.

Michael Kelly came in for Jacob Lopez at the mound in the third, but New York went to work all the same. The Yankees went up 5-3 when Jose Caballero was walked before Trent Grisham hit a single of his own and sent in two more runners.

Volpe once again made an impact with another single to make it an 8-3 game.

Without a single out yet to be recorded, Max Schuemann made it a 10-3 game with yet another two-run RBI double.

After finally getting an out, Kelly gave up a fly-ball triple from Rice, which sent in two more runners. Two batters later, Bellinger capped off the 13-run inning with a one-run RBI single.

New York was ahead by double-digits when the inning ended and it marked just the fourth 13-inning run in Yankees history. In fact, it’s just the 37th time in MLB history that a team has recorded one.

There’s still plenty of time for the Athletics to work with, but the Yankees have made a comeback attempt very difficult.
