In the 8th round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday, the New York Yankees drafted two-way player Luke Pettitte, son of franchise legend and five-time World Series champion Andy Pettitte.

Luke pitched in 17 games across his first two seasons at Dallas Baptist University, racking up 56 strikeouts, although Tommy John surgery kept him off the mound for his junior year.
As a full-time designated hitter, he slashed .337/.403/.693 with 16 home runs and 48 RBIs.
His father, Andy, spent 18 seasons as a pitcher in the Majors, racking up three All-Star appearances and five World Series victories in 15 seasons with the Yankees.
In 3,300 innings pitched, he recorded 2,448 strikeouts and still holds the MLB’s all-time postseason wins record with 19.
Now, he serves as a special advisor for the Yankees and is likely delighted that they hold Luke’s draft rights.
