Chicago White Sox draft UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky with the No. 1 pick

With the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft on Saturday, the Chicago White Sox selected ULCA shortstop Roch Cholowsky.

Cholowsky is a two-time Big Ten Player of the Year and is coming off a terrific season for the Bruins in which he racked up 20 home runs and 60 RBIs while slashing 320/.452/.636.

Considered the best college shortstop since Troy Tulowitzki, Cholowsky combines both raw power at the plate and sharp defense on the field.

As a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award last season, he led UCLA to an outstanding record of 52-8 in the regular season.

Cholowsky has long been considered the favorite to go No. 1 in this draft, despite a surge from Fort Worth Christian High School shortstop Grady Emerson.

With proven skills to go along with phenomenal physical tools, Cholowsky may find himself in the majors very quickly.
