The No. 14 UNC Tar Heels secured an 87-77 victory over Syracuse on Monday, dominating the second half of the matchup before surviving a late-game comeback attempt.

Freshman Caleb Wilson led UNC to a moderate start. As the offense finally found a flow near the end of the first half, the Tar Heels held a 46-32 advantage at halftime.

The second half began with total domination. UNC was firing on all cylinders and jumped out to a 32-point lead with less than ten minutes to play.

That’s when Syracuse slowly began to chip away at the lead. Down by 18 points with just over three minutes to go, the Orange stormed back into the game thanks to several huge threes by Nate Kingz.

Despite the 9-0 scoring run, the Tar Heels made big free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.

Wilson finished the game with 22 points and nine rebounds while shooting 6-of-14 from the floor.

For Syracuse, Donnie Freeman put up 23 points, eight rebounds and two steals.

The victory pushes the Tar Heels to 18-4 on the season while Syracuse falls to 13-10.
