The No. 6 UConn Huskies went head to head with the No. 15 St. John’s Red Storm on Wednesday. The outcome was a defensive masterclass as the Huskies dominated St. John’s 72-40. The Red Storm missed a whopping 24 straight field goals to close out the game.

UConn’s dominance was on display early as the Huskies jumped out to a 31-11 lead in the first six minutes. While the Red Storm stayed within striking distance in the first half, the same could not be said about the second half.
St John’s scored just 14 points in the second half as UConn’s defense was nearly perfect.
Their offense was strong as well and Tarris Reed Jr. finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks.
For St. John’s, Joson Sanon was the only player in double figures, finishing with 10 points on 3-of-10-shooting from the floor.
The loss is officially the Red Storm’s largest defeat under Rick Pitino and their 40 point total is the fewest any team has ever scored under Pitino.
