The Volunteers were able to keep pace with the Wolverines for much of the first half. Despite disadvantages in both size and depth, Tennessee had a momentary lead after ten minutes.
But over the next 20 minutes, Michigan went on a smothering 50-12 extended scoring run. Just over five minutes into the second half, the Wolverines were in front by 31 points.
Yaxel Lendeborg led the way for Michigan on this run, getting to the rim in transition at will while Michigan’s offense looked practically invincible.
Tennessee’s Ja’Kobi Gillespie did all he could to help the Volunteers rally, but the gap was simply too large.
Lendeborg continued his spectacular tournament run with 27 points and seven rebounds on 10-of-19 shooting.
For the Volunteers, Gillespie finished with 21 points four assists and six steals.
Michigan is now set to face the Arizona Wildcats in a monumental Final Four matchup.
