Aston Villa held a strategic meeting on Wednesday to confirm Unai Emery’s central role in the club’s sporting leadership beyond his 2029 contract expiry.

Aston Villa confirmed on Wednesday it is planning its long-term sporting future under manager Unai Emery, holding a high-level strategy session to define the club’s direction past 2029 — when his current contract ends.

Chairman Nassef Sawiris, President of Football Operations Roberto Olabe and Director of Football Operations Damian Vidagany joined Emery in the meeting. The club said the session established a shared commitment to developing Aston Villa under Emery’s sporting leadership beyond 2029.

In a statement, Villa described the goal as building an ambitious, competitive club capable of pursuing major challenges and accomplishments. It emphasized shared ambitions and a common objective to grow and improve over the coming years.

The club did not announce a new contract. While some reports suggest an agreement is near, Villa has not confirmed any extension.

Emery joined Aston Villa in 2022. He led the club to the Europa League title last season and secured Champions League qualification twice.

The announcement follows a dispute one week earlier involving former England international Jamie Carragher. Carragher apologized after using offensive language on the "Stick to Football" podcast when responding to fan criticism of Emery. Villa confirmed it would take no further action.

The club’s statement made no mention of its recent match in Barcelona or attendance by Prince William and Prince George — details absent from the official communication.
