UL Monroe Warhawks defeated Arkansas State Red Wolves 19–17 on Saturday in Jonesboro, Ark., behind a 40-yard field goal by kicker Abram Murray with 1:49 remaining and a game-sealing interception by safety Gavin Howard with one minute left.

The Warhawks improved to 2–7 overall and 2–3 in the Sun Belt Conference. Arkansas State fell to 4–5 overall and 2–3 in the league.

UL Monroe won its second consecutive game against Arkansas State — reversing a 15-game losing streak that ended with a 28–16 victory in Monroe last season.

Warhawks running back Austin Carlisle rushed for 111 yards on 19 carries and completed all four of his pass attempts for 31 yards. Don Chaney added 68 rushing yards on 12 carries.

After Arkansas State took a 17–16 lead, UL Monroe drove downfield in seven plays and used nearly four minutes off the clock to set up Murray’s go-ahead kick.

Arkansas State advanced to its own 44-yard line before Howard intercepted a pass from Red Wolves quarterback Trey Owens. UL Monroe converted one final first down to secure the win.

Owens finished 16-of-29 for 193 yards with one touchdown, two interceptions and one fumble. Jaylen Bonelli caught three passes for 66 yards.

UL Monroe hosts Louisiana–Lafayette on Thursday. Arkansas State travels to Coastal Carolina next Saturday.
