New Browns HC said quarterbacks threw ’embarrassing’ interceptions during OTAs

New Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken has his work cut out for him to right the ship that is the quarterback room.

As it currently sits, Cleveland has an open battle for the starting job that includes Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel and Taylen Green. But as OTAs began this week, the group had a rough performance throwing multiple interceptions.

“We threw interceptions in 7-on7 for God’s sake,” Monken said. “Who does that? There’s no pass rush. It was embarrassing.”

Monken did not specify which quarterbacks were responsible for the turnovers throughout the session.

Sanders and Gabriel were the two who saw the most action last season during their rookie campaigns. Gabriel threw seven touchdowns and two interceptions while posting a 1-5 record during his starts before being replaced by Sanders.

The former Colorado quarterback would finish the season throwing seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions with a 3-4 record for Cleveland.

Watson is now back in the mix to try and salvage his career after sitting out last season to rehab from injury. He joined the team back in 2022 when he signed a five year $230 million full guaranteed deal but has only appeared in 13 games across four seasons.

Now with Green in the mix, who was selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft, Monken and the Browns have a wide spectrum of options to work with to figure out who will break the huddle this fall.
