Stanford men’s basketball defeated Oakland 81–63 on Friday night.

Nick Townsend, Stanford guard, scored 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 1 three-pointer and 8-of-9 free throws. Christian Bliss, Stanford guard, came off the bench to score 17 points — all from four 3-pointers. Aidan Cammann, Stanford forward, added 13 points.

Chris Fields Jr., Oakland guard, led the Golden Grizzlies with 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Reserve William Kassi, Oakland forward, scored 11 points.

Bella El Shakery, Oakland guard, converted a three-point play to give Oakland an 11–7 lead less than six minutes into the game. Townsend answered with a jumper, then turned a tip-in into a three-point play to put Stanford ahead — a lead it held for the rest of the game. The Cardinal led 38–33 at halftime.

Kassi’s layup cut Stanford’s advantage to 40–39 with 17:33 left in the second half. Bliss and Townsend hit 3-pointers within 56 seconds to restore a two-possession margin. Stanford extended its lead thereafter.

Stanford shot 47% from the field, 9-of-27 from 3-point range and 14-of-15 from the free-throw line. Oakland shot 45% from the field, 3-of-17 from beyond the arc and 9-of-25 from the free-throw line.

Stanford improved to 2–0. Oakland fell to 0–2. Oakland plays at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. Stanford hosts Rice on Monday.
