Bulls’ three-time champion and broadcaster Stacey King dies at 59

Three-time NBA champion and beloved Chicago Bulls broadcaster Stacey King has died at the age of 59, the team announced on Sunday. A cause of death was not disclosed.

King was the sixth overall pick in 1989 and played all 82 games as a rookie for the Bulls, averaging 8.9 points and 4.7 rebounds off the bench.

He went on to win three championships alongside Michael Jordan from 1991 to 1993.

After his time in Chicago ended, he finished off his playing career with stops on the Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat, Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks.

He dabbled in professional coaching after calling it a career and later went on to join the Bulls’ broadcast team. King quickly became a fan-favorite as a commentator and called Bulls games for nearly 20 years.

“Stacey King was a cherished member of the Bulls family and one of the truly unique personalities in our organization’s history,” Bulls owner and chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said in a statement. “His connection to Chicago, the Bulls and our fans spanned more than three decades — first as a player and later as the unmistakable voice that helped bring Bulls basketball into the homes of generations of fans.”

“We will miss him deeply and remember the joy, energy, humor, candor and passion that he brought to our organization, our broadcasts, and our fans every day.”
