The San Antonio Spurs demolished the Minnesota Timberwolves 139-109 in Game 6 on Friday to win the series and advance to the Western Conference Finals.

While the first quarter proved to be the calm before the storm, the Spurs still jumped out to an advantage early. Stephon Castle was on fire for San Antonio, although all five starters were playing at an elite level.

At the same time, Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves began to fall behind, facing a nine-point deficit after 12 minutes.

The Spurs were playing terrific on both ends of the floor to start the second quarter as they quickly expanded their lead to 26 points midway through the period.

Almost immediately, Edwards and the Timberwolves recovered to begin chipping away at the deficit. While they actually made a strong effort to get back into it, they were still down by 13.

With a chance to hit the ground running and swing the momentum, the Timberwolves failed to come out strong in the third. Meanwhile, San Antonio’s defense finally woke back up and began blocking nearly every shot.

The results was a third quarter that saw the Spurs outscore the Timberwolves by an additional 13 points.

Minnesota made a last-ditch effort to start the final quarter, but San Antonio’s elite defense held on and starters for both team were subbed out after a few fourth-quarter minutes.

The Spurs finished the game shooting 56% from the field and 47% from beyond the arc.

Castle had a terrific night with 36 points, 11 rebounds and six assists on 11-of-16 shooting while Victor Wembanyama put up 19 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

For Minnesota, Edwards finished with 24 points and three steals, but shot just 9-of-26 from the floor.

The Spurs will now face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.
