LeBron James is opting into his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. This will net him $52.6 million in the 2025-26 NBA season.

LeBron clearly isn’t ready to retire, as he’s still chasing his fifth NBA championship. Despite this desire to keep playing, LeBron may not be around for much longer.

He’s already entering his 23rd season, which will be the most by a player in NBA history. Even at this latest stage in his career, LeBron hasn’t really slowed down.

Last season he still put up averages of 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game on 51.3% shooting. These averages were better than most players who are 10 years younger than he is.

The reason why LeBron may soon be hanging up his shoes isn’t because of his play or his desire to play. It’s apparently because of his wife, Savannah.

While in New York, LeBron was out at a restaurant with Savannah and former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Kevin Love and his wife. A video was recorded from the restaurant where LeBron is heard saying, “Savannah wants me to f—ing retire in the next year or so.”

So when will LeBron retire? We can’t say for sure just quite yet, but it will be sooner than later. As for us fans, we should appreciate his greatness for however long he continues to play.
