Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh has had a rough time at the plate over the last few weeks. In fact, he went completely cold and failed to record a hit in 38 straight at-bats.

On Tuesday night against the Houston Astros, he finally broke the streak with a single during the 10-2 blowout victory.

Raleigh said after the game that he took the advice he received from pitcher Logan Gilbert and took a shower in his full uniform on Monday night.

“Logan gave me some good advice to wash off the bad mojo or juju from the baseball gods,” Raleigh said. “So yeah, it worked. He was right, so I got to give him credit where credit’s due.”

After hitting a line drive to center field and finally getting on base, the Mariners dugout was cheering as Raleigh raised his hands with a smile. He said he’s more than willing to joke about his own struggles, and that the Mariners are at their best when they’re having fun.

“We can make fun of it. And we can do those things. And guys can laugh at their own mistakes a little bit and keep it lighthearted around here and have fun,” he said. “And it’s ultimately when we’re playing our best.”

In fairness, the Mariners haven’t exactly had a phenomenal start to the season, but Raleigh’s recovery at the plate is a good sign for the future.
